Portaledge Camping, Extreem Camp with Hanging Tent on Cliff

Probably for most people, traveling to camping has made them sweat. But not so with extreme adventurers. Climbing and putting up the tent on top of a cliff in an altitude tens or even hundreds of meters above the ground are common. Even at the most extreme, a climbing trip to the top of the cliff can be done for weeks.

Portaledge Camping or camping with a tent that hangs is one extreme sport that is done by climbing a cliff, trees or other high places, and set up tents hanging to rest and enjoy the incredible natural scenery.


Hanging tents are used to relax for the climber is called Portaledge. Designed specifically with a fairly strong resistance and can protect the climber from the cold weather at night and even snow.

First developed Portaledge in the 1950s when rock climbers began the expedition and need a safe place to rest at night on the cliff. However, the initial design Portaledge still considered less comfortable and safe for the climbers. It was in 1980 appeared Portaledge design that is considered qualified. With an adjustable dynamic rope and a white cloth covering called Stormfly, Portaledge design has become the standard and are used until now.

Many people often wonder why the Portaledge enthusiasts do this. The reason often given is, the camp sensation is unrivaled. Currently there are dozens of spots to do Portaledge, including the Himalaya, Antarctica, and California.
